- Required to borrow library materials and use library computers
- Free to residents of the City of Peterborough
- Free to residents outside of the Peterborough area if they can prove they live in a bordering county (Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire) or work/study in the Peterborough area
- Non-residents may obtain a temporary library membership that allows limited borrowing privileges and computer use
Joining Online
You may join the library online by clicking on the button below after you have read and accepted the membership conditions. Your membership card will be available for collection at the library you have chosen.
Peterborough Libraries will need you to bring two separate documents, one showing your name and address and one showing your signature.
The following forms of identification are accepted to obtain a library card:
- Signature
- Driving Licence
- Passport
- Bank or Credit Card
- Name And Address
- Driving Licence
- Receipted bills for: Gas, Electricity, Water, Telephone Bank/Cheque Card
- Council Tax Installment Book
- Bank Statement
- Medical Card
If you’re 16 or under, a parent or legal guardian’s address and ID is fine, and they will be responsible for borrowed items and any late return fees.
Conditions of Membership
- Your Peterborough Library membership card can be used at all of our libraries. You must have your membership card present when borrowing items.
- DVDs are available for a 3 day (new titles) or 1 week rental, CDs and Play Station games are available for a 1 week rental. All other items for loan may be borrowed for 3 weeks.
- You may borrow up to 12 items on your card (maximum of 5 CDs, DVDs or games). These can be borrowed from and returned to any branch of Peterborough Libraries.
- Items may be renewed 3 times at any branch or on-line. We offer an automated telephone renewal service on 08458 505606. Staff are happy to renew items over the telephone during opening hours, please have your library card number with you. If a reservation has been placed on an item you have on loan a renewal is not permitted.
- Items may be returned to any Peterborough public library.
- Overdue charges will be incurred for the late return of items.
- Membership is suspended when you have exceeded the limits set for overdue items and outstanding charges.
- Overdue notices are a courtesy reminder for your convenience.
- A reservation and inter-library loan service is available for those items which are on loan, available at another branch or held by another library service. A fee is charged for this service. You can place your own reservations for most items via the public access catalogues at our branches or through the Peterborough Library Service online catalogue.
- All costs incurred by the Library due to items lost or damaged whilst in your care must be reimbursed.
- All reservation, inter-library loan and lost membership card charges are non-refundable.
- If you change your address or name please notify us immediately.
- Please report lost cards to the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.
- Membership details are held under the terms of the Data Protection Act.
